Cooper Street Main Drain Relocation

Located near the corner of the Hume Highway and Cooper Street in Somerton, Melbourne Waters 2100mm in diameter Cooper Street Main Drain was constructed diagonally across a 12Ha industrial parcel of land. The drain was constructed along an existing creek in the mid-1980's.

To accommodate the 1 in 100 year overland flows along the pipe, a 30m wide drainage easement encumbrance was created over the land. DCE were engaged by the owner, Salta Properties to ascertain the feasibility of relocating the existing drain and overland flow path to maximise the value of the property.

Using Infoworks (a dynamic hydraulic modelling software package), DCE presented to Melbourne Water a solution to re-direct the drain around the boundary of the site and by upsizing the pipe to a 2400mm diameter capture the 1 in 100 year overland flows. By eliminating the overland flow path, the drainage easement was reduced to 8m.

DCE also completed the detail design documentation, tendering, contract administration and construction surveillance of the 800 metre long pipeline.
