Ravenhall Railway Culverts

The Laverton Creek drainage project for Melbourne Water required the construction of drainage culverts and associated structures to allow the passage of a significant drainage catchment beneath the Melbourne to Ballarat railway line in Ravenhall.

The 7 No 1650mm diameter culverts were constructed by microtunelling using state of the art tunnel boring machines in complex ground conditions. Each tunnel 'drive' took approximately two weeks to complete, and was required to be undertaken at night, outside of railway operating hours.

DCE was engaged by Melbourne Water to design and project manage the $6 million project which included significant stakeholder negotiations with parties including V Line, VicTrack, VicRoads and numerous Land Owners and Developers. The project provides a drainage outfall for a number of industrial developments in the area.
